The entire history of this channel has led to this moment.

I like how he can't stop himself from saying "Guh-rand." Sorry, Mr. Garand, we just can't stop saying it that way.
  • My brother owns almost a dozen of these. Last time we went to the range we brought one and he didn't warn me about "Garand thumb." All I knew about the gun was from video games, and they usually don't depict those kind of things in games. He was really disappointed that I didn't get my thumb eaten. I really enjoyed the gun though. Good heft to it.

I lost my position as the armorer in JROTC because I kept going into the arms room to play with the Garands we had in stock. I regret nothing.

GT: “this is a gas operated semi-automatic weapon” AFT: so its a machine gun then
  • Love the long shots with no cuts. Shows how great of a speaker your really are.
  • 10:56: my father (who is 95) and his late brother (who would have been 98 or 99) both said that the most likely time to get what they called m-1 thumb was when a trainee would incorrectly execute inspection arms. When I find my original 1941 soldiers manual I'll add the appropriate instructions. Edit: As promised FM 21-100 Basic Field Manual Soldiers Handbook July 23 1941 Pg.96 paragraph 114. Being at Inspection Arms. U.S. rifle, caliber .30, M1-1. At the command Lock (or Unlock) Pieces, place the right hand against the operating rod handle with the fingers extended and joined and the thumb on the follower. (TWO) Force the operating rod handle slightly to the rear, depress the follower with the right thumb, and permit the bolt to ride forward about 1 inch over the follower. (THREE) Remove the thumb from the follower and release the operating rod handle. (FOUR) Lock the piece or unlock the piece and pull the trigger as the case may be (par. 104b(2)) and resume the position of PORT ARMS. After pieces have been locked or unlocked, as prescribed above, ORDER or RIGHT SHOULDER ARMS is given or the unit is dismissed. Unlike the modern SMART book, there is no breakdown of common tasks in go/no go sub tasks. The drawings of positions in the manual are on the other hand, much better.
  • I had a feeling John Garand engineered that rifle to catch the shooters thumb so that theyll fire angrily at the enemy and while hating the rifle, smash it on their enemy's faces to get even with it.
  • As a young E-3 you can’t afford the Simplisafe. You are to financially strapped paying the 72% interest rate on the 2010 Ford Mustang you bought.

When my dad was in the Army, he was very left handed. So left handed he could not shoot right handed. Left handed he had a marksman's badge. On the range, the old Garand ejected shells out to the right, so when he shot left handed they would hit him in the head. He wore his helmet on the range and the shells would eject hitting his helmet and making an almost bell sound. He said his NCO knew he was on the range because he could hear the repeat of the rifle followed by the sound of the rounds hitting his helmet.

My nephew gave himself Garand FINGER. He somehow got his index finger caught in it, and it bled quite a bit. I like how you had an assembly line of dudes ready to give it the old college try.
  • @woodchuckcider1
Loved how he picks up the hi point carbine and immediately drops it for the Garand lmao

What we've seen here is how ingenious the M1 Garand was, it would hurt the unattentive soldier - motivating him with a sharp but not an infectious pain, thereby increasing his adrenaline levels. A free stim shot in combat.
  • @Gn4rkillz
Not sure how we all met here, but now we are watching a video of a guy getting his finger purposely jammed into an M1 Garand.

Seems a hell of a lot better than scorpion pinky. Due to some negligence on my part and thinking it was safer to keep the bolt open while i was fiddling with my optic, my pinky had found its way into the chamber. As the gun shifted in my lap, my leg sent the bolt home and that was the first time i ever lost a finger nail. Fun times.
