  • For some reason some people feel like Teslas are an encroachment on American muscle, but they fail to realize Tesla is the most American made American Vehicle in the USA. It is American to the bone, and is the modern day muscle car.

That ZR1 driver knows how to launch. That was impressive
  • It's funny that we've reached the point where we're saying, "Hey look! That gas burner actually put up a fight!" LOL
  • Damn the ZR1 driver got a wayyy better start than what I was expecting
  • @bshadrick
1.3 second win by the plaid is actually a huge margin.

Here's the thing, This is not just any electric car that can reach these speeds and acceleration. Tesla deserves more credit than it gets. is not just because is electric, it is electric and marvelous engineering and aerodynamics.
  • That's about as fast a pass as the ZR1 can make. The launch was perfect!:yougotthis:
  • I am actually impressed that the ZR1 launched anywhere near the speed of the plaid. that hook up lol.
  • Recently took a ride in a Plaid. The torque is mind blowing. Your eyes go to the back of your head, your stomach feels like you road a ride on the fair midway. The car is scary fast.
  • I'm not surprised by the ZR1. Got a chance to try one out a few weeks ago, from the line, and man that thing is fast.
  • To everyone pointing out that the plaid is fast, yes, we know*. I think we are all just impressed that someone managed to race against a plaid and *not look like their car was standing still. In fact, after just running a 9, I will bet that Tesla driver was at least a little surprised to look out his peripheral vision a second into the race and actually see his opponent THERE, and not entirely in his rearview mirror. Give that Vette and it’s driver some credit.
  • MAJOR props to the Vette driver! That definitely took some skill to get that time
  • Wow that was a crazy clean run in that vette. Nice job!

Tesla's have no lag time when it comes to torque. They launch at 100% torque right off the line. V8s have a lag time reaching full torque. On a longer track the results would likely be different. Especially in factory configuration. Props to both cars.
  • Big up to the vette driver for that awesome launch.
  • The speed of an EV is one thing, but a lot of people underestimate the advantage they have when they don't have to shift gears. The Tesla just pulls all the way and the other cars fall back a bit every time they shift gears.

When I worked for a Lexus dealer back in 2007-8 they made a variant of the Gs series cars that was a hybrid gas/electric called the gs450h. When I got to inspect/pdi my first one off the truck and I did the 10 mile test drive I was blown away by the torque that car produced. I remember thinking then that electric cars are gonna be some of the fastest cars on the market and on top of that without adding anything to them. They are like that straight out the box, that car could run in the 9s all day with a trunk full of groceries, 4 people and a baby seat in the back.
  • It used to be all about torque and times in the 60 and quarter. When EVs started winning, suddenly it became all about "soul".
