“It does seem as though some information hasn't been given to parliament.”

Former Home Office adviser Claire Pearsall tells #TimesRadio it seems there was a “cover up” by the Conservative government about the reality of public finances and Rachel Reeves has "three months" of "political honeymoon" to keep the public's favour.

If you claim Pension Credit you will receive the Winter Fuel Allowance ... BUT YOU MUST CLAIM PENSION CREDIT!!!

Paul Johnson of the IFS said that Jeremy Hunt's NI cuts left a £20 billion shortfall in the treasury coffers. Why is Hunt not commenting on that. The Tory government went on and on about putting £900 extra in people's pockets, but nothing was said about the downside of the policy. Now we know why

Reeves can simply fix the budget by calling on the French to service their sovereign debt to Treasury. Or sell the debt instead, because hundreds and hundreds of billions of pounds will sort the budget out now and for a long time to come.

Funny how this comes out after the voting
  • What is no one talking about the shady VIP lane contracts? Who got the Rwanda contracts? What about the NHS contracts, buying products that are useful to the NHS, was due diligence done before misusing the tax payers money?

We used to fund the asylum system from money put aside. They've changed the way they've funded the system because now it costs astronomical amounts.

I don’t believe the Conservative Party, their MPs or their client media have grasped the significance of yesterday’s briefing and what’s at stake. Arguably they are still in denial. The most critical and important outcome from yesterday, was the OBR announcement of the audit. They have full access to the books, if they establish there is a significant variance and cover up, it could be catastrophic for the future of the Conservative Party and their MPs even before any outcomes from the VIP lanes investigation. If it is that bad, the Conservatives could be looking at a Liberal Party moment, from 100 years ago, at the next election.

Sounds like someone in charge who failed his maths exams in charge of the money

She not fixing anything she's robbing Peter to pay Paul

I'm a pensioner & I don't need the winter fuel allowance. Providing the cost of means-testing is less than the savings, I totally support it.
  • Hopefully this Labour government do the decent thing to start balancing the books ... the morally right thing ... the honest thing .... THE RIGHT THING and MEANS TEST THE FREELOADING ELDERLY
  • @yeah-I-know
the same state they were when Labour left 14 years ago... remember the "no money in the treasury, good luck" note? it's still there
  • Just change the law. If people weren't desperate enough to ask for help in France, they should be automatically judged to be not in need of refuge, and refused help here.

Stephen Flynn, Owen Jones and Ash Sakar were talking about the £20b black hole months before the election. Can you give me the link where Times Radio went into the detail at the time please 👍
  • Fund doctors' pay rises by subjecting private health insurance companies to special, punitive taxes, both on past earnings and on future 'sales'. The state should make it as difficult as possible to jump the queue for medical treatment. Otherwise, the most vulnerable members of society could end up dying as a result of their health complaints, before their turn to see a doctor ever comes.

Some pensioners will die as a consequence of the withdrawal of the Winter Fuel Allowance. The reason, to provide a massive salary boost to doctors to stop them striking, which has alas killed the sick through lack of treatment. Decisions decisions ...
