In February 2015 Russian politician Boris Nemtsov—a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin—was shot dead on a bridge in the shadow of the Kremlin.

Five men were convicted for his murder, but urgent questions remained: Who ordered the killing…and why?

Now, a new film from Bellingcat, The Insider, and BBC Eye Investigations reveals evidence that, in the year running up to the shooting, Boris Nemtsov was being shadowed by a government agent linked to a secret assassination squad.

  • I'm Russian. Boris Nemtsov was a strong politician, he fought for democracy in our country. He was thinking about the people, he was gathering huge peaceful rallies. He wasn't afraid to go out and talk to random people. To explain to them why, what the TV is broadcasting is a lie, to explain where Putin is leading our country. He collected a million signatures of people to stop the war in Chechnya. He has always advocated friendship between Russia and Ukraine. In 2014, he was one of the organizers of the Peace March. His death is a tragedy for us for many generations. His colleague was Alexei Navalny. In 2013, he participated in the elections for the post of mayor of Moscow. In 2018, he launched his presidential campaign. The government, in collusion with corrupt courts, hung fabricated criminal cases on him in order to prevent him from going to the elections. And at the same time, he was assigned a team of assassins from the FSB, which pursued him for 3 years. In the summer of 2021, Navalny was poisoned with the Novichok chemical warfare agent. In Russia, of course, this was not recognized and the poisoning case was not initiated, there was no official investigation. How to initiate a criminal case in which you are to blame? That Navalny was poisoned by the FSB on Putin's orders, we learned thanks to the billingcat investigation and Navalny's team - FBK. He survived and after rehabilitation returned to his homeland to fight for the bright future of our country. He is the only politician who has enough ambition to oppose Putin. Upon arrival in Moscow, he was arrested and now he is sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment in a high-security prison on an absurd fabricated case. We went out to thousands of rallies all over the country. But he's still in custody. Right now it is in the hands of similar people who are ready to kill anyone on command from above. Please, all civilized countries, do not forget about Navalny. During the war, they can get rid of him under the guise, it will be a tragedy, both personal for everyone who supports him, and a tragedy for Russia. And this is dangerous for the world, because it will prolong Putin's rule and his aggression on the surrounding countries. There are only a few honest and strong politicians who are able to pull Russia out of dictatorship and barbarism. Putin is a criminal and a murderer. This man has never even participated in a political debate. For him, killing and jailing is the basis of competition. For many years he plundered our country, killed inconvenient people, launched repressions against his own people who want freedom and democracy. But now he has reached the apogee in his impunity — he gave the order to kill tens of thousands of Ukrainians and Russians in the war. He destroys cities and wreaks havoc, he plunges us under the hood, where it is even easier to deal with us, he threatens the world with nuclear weapons. He must be stopped. Another remarkable news. Putin today signed a decree awarding Ramzan Kadyrov the rank of Lieutenant General of the Russian Guard. A detachment of Chechens in Mariupol is led by Geremeev - also involved in the murder of Boris Nemtsov. In total, honest politicians and figures in Russia have either already been killed or are in prison. And criminals who kill people for the sake of retaining power - live and receive promotions. Thanks a lot to BBS, Insider and billingcat for this investigation! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Everyone should see it.

“Boris Nemtsov was a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin.” Question answered in the first 15 seconds.

I miss Boris Nemtsov so much. I remember him young, together with his political allies, engaging us, school kids, in Russia’s political life. I wish he was alive now, speaking up, leading the protests against this freaking war. You’re not forgotten, Boris.
  • I'm Ukrainian and I feel so sorry for Boris Nemtsov. He was truly a great man who could bring a bright future for Rusia, as well as a peaceful friendship with Ukraine.

The city of Prague renamed the square where Russian Embassy is located to Square of Boris Nemtsov in 2020. The embassy reacted by changing its delivery address to another building. Now the Prague renamed the street where the delivery address is to "Ukrainian Heroes Street" and nearby bridge after Vitaliy Skakun who blew himself up to destroy a bridge in the Kherson region to block the progress of Russian troops.

One of these few people you would mourn with tears even if you didn't know them personally. So sad both for him and for what russia have become without him
  • @innak1063
Nemtsov was an amazing person. Not only people from Russia loved him, he was a friend of Ukraine as well. He could lead Russia to the success. And now Putin is leading Russia to the end. To the very end.
  • I can’t understand how some people have this respect for putin and see him as an Alfa leader when he poisoned men and shot them in the back.
  • @KJ-sq5ut
This is completely insane and the fact that Putin can sit in an interview with a straight face when asked about these assassinations or attempts to assassinate political opponents is astounding.😟

I can't believe it till now. He is always here, living, strong, beautiful, we have no one like he, and it hurts so much. Thank you bbc
  • Thank you for splitting the truth. I hope that many people all over the world learn what the general situation is like in Russia and how the government keeps oppressing the opposition
  • @TheGQBrotha
You saw the passion with which Nemtsov spoke, no wonder Putin was afraid of him. Amazing how in today’s Russia you will never see someone who speaks out against Putin’s autocracy like this. Many Russians are afraid of Putin, Nemtsov was not.
  • @SplashAttackTCG
He seems like a great man. Once in a generation. He would have made a great President.
  • @wodasodowa
Nemtsov, Politkovskaya, Litvinienko, Berezovsky, Merkelov, Baburova, Magnitsky, Estemirova, Yushenkov, Shchekochikhin, Glushkov, Voronenkov…
  • @jonasnielsen7361
Funny how every single critic of putin ends up dead or in jail 🤔
  • @TBrl8
