  • I served in the U.S. army during the Vietnam War (1970-1971). I was crew chief on a V-100 Commando Car. We were stationed at Quang Tri Combat Base. We ran Convoy escort and fire support for convoys going as far south as DaNang on highway One, and as far West as Vandergriff Combat Base near Khe Son on highway nine. We escorted convoys carrying ammunition and supplies to all of the forward Fire Support Bases along the DMZ.
We got hit by a rocket propelled grenade while traveling just west of Dong Ha on highway 9. Two of our crewmen were wounded, but we all made it home alive
