The great Philippine eagle seems more like a creature from a story than that of reality. Standing at a metre tall, with a 7ft wingspan and dagger-like talons, they are truly formidable animals, but with just 400 pairs left in the wild, are the most endangered raptors in the world.

In December 2019, a young female Philippine eagle was miraculously rescued from the ocean off the south coast of Mindanao. The bird was starving, exhausted and after changing hands several times, was taken to the Philippine Eagle Foundation for rehabilitation. She was named 'Maasim'.

On news of Maasim's story, biologist, Dan O'Neill, heads to the Philippines to follow her journey back to the wild. But after a major setback, the mission is turned upside down...

Give this documentary an award!!! Who's with me?
  • I’d so love to donate to save them. They’re not just Philippines’ treasure. They’re this world’s treasure. 🥺
  • @jeeecyang
“Because of him, all the animals here have a future. This forest is safe.” Truly, this bird is king.
  • @donnat-_-
The names they give to these birds are so creative. Bighani means to fall in love or in awe. Pamana means Inheritance or Legacy Pag-asa means hope. There is another one which is Makilala-Hiraya. Makilala is the town she's found and Hiraya means "the fruit of one’s hopes, dreams and aspirations",
  • The sad thing is many Filipino students and adults are not aware how unique, how important, and how endangered the Philippine eagle is.
  • “All birds find shelters during a rain, but eagle avoids rain by flying above the clouds. Problems are common, but attitude makes the difference.”

Each eagle can stabilize an entire forest's ecosystem, an overseer i see

Wow, i've met Jason Ibanez when he was still a rookie biologist in the Philippine eagle center, he was monitoring the wild eagles nest deep in a jungle in a local mountain. Now i see him as director of conservation time surely flies. We need more heroes like him.
  • This is by far my most favorite documentary about the Philippine Eagle. The host seems very genuine about how much he really cares about animals. Kudos to you sir!

I really don’t understand the people giving the thumbs down, heartless. I hope the foundation gets more funding.

A flying bird is common sight to see. But a flying and gliding Philippine Eagle? Man, that's pure joy. Thank you for bringing this content to us.
  • The Philippines has some of the most unique animals including the rare deer, however the country needs to do more when it comes to enforcing and preserving their animals. These animals are practically going extinct in front of your eyes due to hunters with air rifles, miners and loggers tearing down forest. Such a shame.

Fun fact: The Philippine Eagle is very loyal. Once paired to a partner, they choose to remain as a couple for the rest of their lives. One of the reasons why I really love this bird.
  • @angienatoyn
How appropriate that this is shown just a couple of days before Philippine independence day.
