Can we all just appreciate the fact that Dylan can remember one name perfectly, and that name is Medrucula.

I actually love that Dylan is spending more time critiquing the film from a movie-making standpoint in this video!
  • I’m not educated in film so I never understand why I dislike certain films so it’s so much fun to hear Dylan’s opinions because it just gives me the explanations I didn’t know I needed

Fun fact about the tentacles, octopuses tentacles each have a small brain so the part where Ursy is interacting with them making her own potion (~29:35) is kinda like a homage to that.

Getting mentally prepared to see how he transitions to audible this time

Dylan is the only person who can make a sponsorship sound like a rickroll 😭

Can we just appreciate how funny Dylan is? That joke with Ariel's race change was so funny I laughed my ass off.

they did make a contract! but it was one done in blood instead of writing. the director wanted to get rid of the possibility of writing under the sea bc if ariel could write then she could just write “i’m ariel i’m the one who saved you a sea witch took my voice” so that’s why she plucks a scale from her tail for a drop of blood

I love how 2 years later nothing has changed. His “Under the Sea” sing along, Dylan thirsting over Merdurcla, still being confused that there’s more than one mermaid, Dylan turning into Mickey Mouse whenever he’s confused. Never change Dylan, never :)

my problems with this movie: 1. flounder wtf 2. sebastian's eyes 3. the opening should have been the same as it was in the original with all the sisters' singing 4. eric not seeing someone at midnight magically singing walking by the shore from afar ??? 5. ariel's shimmery dress where? 6. the director (main problem probably) 7. bad acting by king triton. he's supposed to be a lot more angrier but also has quirky moments 8. ursula's cave and her taking ariel's voice scene 9. ursula's death so casual and not epic in any way ? 10. scuttle 11. ariel's iconic pink dress 12. THE RAPPING as if this movie has encanto energy ? 13. THE COLORS 14. WHERE ARE ALL THE MERPEOPLE THROUGHOUT the reason why i liked this movie: amazing ariel and ursula choices (also vanessa's actress doesn't get enough credit she could've had more scenes maybe)

One thing I really don't understand about this live action is how everyone, including halle herself, said the original was about ariel only wanting to go to the surface world for a man, and how they were going to change that. But in this movie it makes it seem like that WAY more. In the original, ariel had went to the surface multiple times, regardless of her father's wishes. She was always longing to live up there and she had way more experience up there than the new one. Who doesnt even go to the surface until she sees the ship passover (thats why they made scuttle a different bird. So she can meet her underwater). Actually similarly, the change with "kiss the girl." They said that the original made it seem like Eric was forcing himself onto her, but SHE was the one who kept trying to kiss him, and he even turned away?!? In this movie she doesn't even remember she's supposed to kiss him?? It seems like the majority of the things they tried to change about the original story weren't even in it. And then actually implemented the nonsense they believed into this movie ten fold 💀 what was really corrected about the original?

I felt so disappointed that they didn’t show their reunion scene where she’s wearing a glittery dress that makes her look like she got out of the shimmering ocean but instead just that awkward reunion.
  • Small detail, but I wondered why in a Disney film they didn't have different outfits? She had one blue dress, which was beautiful, don't get me wrong. But if felt like that had an opportunity for more costume design and they decided not to do it. The most gutting one for me was no sparkly dress as she comes out of the ocean!! She is so beautiful and looks like a living water as she walks onto the beach into his arms. Why would they cut that part out? It's exactly as Dylan said, the reunion sucked because they mindlessly changed it.
  • I kinda wish they kept Eric being the one plummeting the ship onto Ursula as a redemption. It worked so well in the animated movie, and here's my two reasons as to why: 1. Ariel saved Eric from drowning after the shipwreck, so having Eric save Ariel by doing the whole "sailing a (former) sunken ship onto Ursula's heart" brought it full circle. We observe land and sea protecting each other, showing how love for your kingdom and the other is worth protecting and fighting for; by having the sea (Ariel) saving the land (Eric), so the land in return saved the sea 2. Eric's redemption: Eric finally found his dream girl. After the curse he's put under is broken, he says something amongst the lines of "I already lost her once; I'm not gonna lose her again". He redeems himself by basically wanting to help out Ariel against Ursula, because he loves her, and now he's proving it, by doing whatever he can to stay by her side and fight her battles alongside her. He spent most of the movie wishing he could meet his dream girl with the beautiful voice, but he unknowingly got to fall in love with her all over again. By thinking the girl with the voice is a fantasy and throwing his flute (something Dylan mentioned), he's throwing away the fantasy he's living in on his head, because he has her*, and she's *there*, and she's his reality, and he fell in love with her personality, willing to accept her "no talking no singing" flaw. He got tricked into pursuing a fantasy, and once the curse is broken, he realizes he fell in love with Ariel *twice*, one he's willing to protect, because she's his reality and his fantasy all-in-one, she's his happily ever after, and he'd do *anything to protect it Having Ariel save Eric more than twice barely puts effort in the representation of land protecting the sea, which is not only terrible, but it also makes a very forced and unnecessary girlboss moment. Them saving each other shows maturity, protectiveness, and understanding of what a serious relationship is supposed to be: dedication and love to your partner. While this movie's Eric has moments where he shows he likes and has taken an interest to Ariel, we as an audience don't get the sense of him loving her as deeply as she does him because he's not protecting her back, making him seem (to me at least) immature, a bit whiny, and WAAAYYYYY too sheltered by being unable to take risks and own it

I thought the same thing about that awkward pause after she'd sung Part of Your World. All they needed was for her to sigh, then *fireworks*. I also thought it was a strange choice to have her sing along during the chorus of Under the Sea. When there's a song in a musical that's trying to get someone to change their mind and they join in singing, it means they've changed their way of thinking. So it just looked like she was in agreement with Sebastian, and made her disappearance at the end make no sense.

This may be my favorite modern role of Melissa Macarthy. She plays it SO well and it’s not just stupid slap stick humor, she REALLY shows her range here! Shows she can play a real character and not just a basic comedic role that we’ve seen forever.

I LOOOVE whenever Dylan adds his film degree knowledge to his commentary and gives ideas on how to make certain shots/scenes better!!! It’s always so interesting

Ok I think the one thing they did really well here was improving on the connection between prince eric and ariel. In the previous movie it was a little weird and I kind of felt like he only liked her because she was pretty and didn't talk. But in this movie she showed him things he didn't know before, they seemed to have bonded in ways and it made sense that they would be together. So I think they did that really well.

I was bullied in school and some people use to call me Ursula,so I’ve always been a little insecure about my body and weight, so seeing Dylan thirst after her makes me kind of happy 😆
