Four bad films make one good one

Junk Films: What do you do with a bunch of half-baked film ideas that never made it past a rough edit? Bang em together to make four short bad films into one middle length one.

Some films don’t make it past a rough edit. What seemed like a golden idea at the time ends up taking up way too much time in the aftermath, only to never see the light of day online, and take up half the memory of a hard drive. As a lover of junk, I don’t have the heart to delete the files and thought ‘why don’t I make four crap films into one ok film?’ I’ll cut out the worst bits, watch the films live, and tell the people of YouTube what’s good and bad about good ideas gone bad.

Things that resonated with me: 1. Don't be too serious 2. Film when you don't want to film 3. Talk about what you know, and you know yourself 4. Use the microphone

The irregularity in uploads is what makes it feel so special when you see a new video :)
  • Beau could even make an entertaining story out of two guys racing to watch paint dry vs grass grow I am sure. You're story telling ability is amazing, and I think you gave some good insights here as to why.

Beau: "I'll share some clips I thought weren't good enough for YouTube, you could say Junk Films" Creates video better than 99.999% of YouTube videos
  • Beau critiquing his own junk shorts is actually a really funny concept

4:50 Absolutely right on the money. “Art of film making is to shoot when you don’t wanna shoot and follow the story even when you know it’s gonna be a hassle.”
  • That pumpkin film is an absolut banger in my book. I love the ending. 10/10

Who else would rather watch "junk films" by Beau Miles over most of the other content on youtube??? This guy is absolutely amazing....Cheers bro
  • My favorite films of yours are the ones about seemingly mundane things or events, but you seem to make it seem so extravagant and it makes me appreciate every little part of life
  • @supingo3339
He might not have consistancy but it is worth the wait for every single one of these masterpieces
  • For what it’s worth, I’d love to see the outer Hebrides film. Whether it’s just an uncommentated montage of footage or with a half dodgy post commentary, seeing you explore my country and enjoy it means the world. If it’s really that unrealistic to release that footage, you’d better be back to make a proper bloody film once this virus has subsided! Great stories mate, great stories
  • The final film was SUCH a tease! Would love to see that finished and Beau'd
  • 'you know its a good idea, but its a hassle' - you just described my entire life

My fave YouTube experience is sitting down with a coffee and watching a new Beau video.

The pumpkin project reminds me of a new tradition I have where after Halloween I scavenge the streets for pumpkins and cook with them. Last year my housemates and I consumed about 6 carving pumpkins. Would recommend.

Beau, I definitely enjoyed watching the collection of partially made films and hearing your thoughts about what went right and wrong in the process. Thanks for showing us your junk!
  • @MotoMatthew
Weird to see you at the Uni of Cumbria with one of my old lecturers Nigel, I genuinely had no idea! Small world eh!

And Miles to go before I sleep. I enjoyed these little films. I do not expect nor demand perfections, yet all the little films you kindly give us has been very enjoyable and awaken the wonderlust in me. This above was not junk and I am glad you shared them with me. Today I go on a new journey as I get to met my first grandkid. Thanks Beau for all the things you do.
