40 days eating only canned beans (191 tins)

Eating only the contents of 191 tins of beans over 40 days transforms Beau into The Human Bean, and in doing so gives him a front row seat into how one food, totally and utterly, dictates how he feels. Beau uses his intimate knowledge of running to compare his former self to his bean-self, logging lacklustre training for an ultramarathon that he plans on running during the final day of the experiment. Epiphanies are had, saddles are blazed, and genuine insight emerges from what is strangely appealing day-to-day of mediocrity.

When you go for a run on a diet of beans, you always have the wind at your back.

This man is such a good story teller, we are all here voluntarily watching him eat cold beans over and over again.
-
Not only is he a character, but he’s an incredible story teller, a comedian, a philosopher, and a heck of a filmographer. I’d pay good money to have a beer with this guy. Maybe even a cold can of beans.

I am autistic and I seriously, really, intensely love beans. They are the cornerstone of my diet in every form, but my favorite is ham and beans. I use smoked ham hocks and cubed pork tenderloin along with the usual fixings and spices, and cornbread. I fill a 5 gallon Dutch oven with ham and beans(1lb Lima beans, 1lb great northern, 1lb split peas) weekly and 2lb ham+bones to eat for the week. It’s incredible. So cheap, very filling and comforting, easy to slow cook, and great drunk food.

I feel sorry for any person that had run a marathon behind the guy that has eaten only beans for over a month
-
It's the middle of the night, and I'm watching a man eat cold beans from a tin... What am I clinging to.
-
Would never have thought a video about a man eating only beans for 40 days would be so fascinating. Incredibly well done, Beau.
-
This video literally inspired me to run my first marathon. I watched this video about 6 months ago and just yesterday completed my first marathon run. The idea of wanting an adventure right where you are really spoke to me. And if some guy can eat nothing but beans and run a marathon I figured I could probably do it eating normal food. Love these videos, love the energy he’s putting into the world!

The fact you didn’t heat any of these is disturbing and massively impressive
-
Old house --> John Steinbeck Novel --> I'm going to eat only beans. Makes perfect sense.
-
I would have loved some stats on the blood work, it would've been nice to see a before and after comparison. Great video!

You discovering how the absence of other foods shortened your emotional experience was really interesting and unexpected. Eating only beans is pretty dark, maybe even akin to a prison diet. You alluded to a darker side of this experiment, and you can tell this must have been quite the thing to stick through.
-
Now you can officially say, "bean there done that"
-
If you turn the "u" in Beau upside down you get Bean.
-
i dont know if i shud be more impressed with his tenacious diet restriction or his seamless gorgeous editing. Its like appreciation at multi-levels
-
I made it halfway through this and decided I needed to go peel open a can myself, and eat my beans while I watch the other half.
-
Gotta admire a mans ability to finish something he’s started. Not necessarily because it makes sense but because he said he was going to do it..

I"m 78. I grew up poor just outside of a small town much like Mayberry in the USA. We ate lots of dry beans in the winter and I loved them. We had a huge garden to supplement our diet in the summer and my mom canned a lot of stuff for the winter. My dad caught about 4k herring in the spring from the local creek and we ate pickled herring most of the year. We couldn't afford pop and snacks from the store and we were probably much healthier for it.

Mad respect to you. It wasn’t easy, and it never was supposed to bean. You showed self discipline and tremendous strength. Very proud of you man

Everytime I watch this (which is probably too frequently) I notice a new line that cracks me up. Beau mate, I absolutely love this mini-doc.
