“I didn’t think YouTube videos could have souls but now I’ve experienced ones that don’t” is such an incredible line and so accurately describes such a specific feeling lmao
  • @emilydurkee8664
Imagine, you're an online content creator, someone you know sends you a YouTube link, "OMG you're in this video" you click on it, it's an hbomber guy video, it's 4 hours long
  • @fdragon77fk
Hbom exposed a guy so hard he faked his own death about it, only to have an alt account defend himself and eventually just reveal he's still alive. What a wild journey
  • 3:37:32 I JUST REALIZED, THE PATHOLOGIC VIDEO WAS RELEASED FOUR YEARS AGO, HE SAID HE WAS GONNA USE THAT BACHELOR QUOTE IN A FUTURE VIDEO AND PRETEND IT WAS FROM A REAL PERSON, AND HE USED IT HERE TO MAKE A JOKE ABOUT PLAGIARISM. THE SEEDS OF THIS JOKE WERE PLANTED A MILLENIA BEFORE OUR TIME.

I suddenly have a great idea for a four hour long video on plagiarism
  • There's a line in here that really sticks with me: "when someone tries to use language to imply what they did happened by magic, they make it pretty clear they're trying to deceive you." I keep coming back to it because someone speaking to me like that was the switch that flipped in my brain and made me realize I was in an abusive relationship. I know that's kind of heavy for the comment section, but it's been echoing in my brain since I first heard it. Really hit home. Anyway, thanks
  • It’s absolutely insane to me how drastically Somerton’s tone shifts when he’s talking about women. The way he goes from the Snooty College Professor voice to sounding so vindictive and angry would be comedic if it wasn’t so damn disturbing. Literal cartoon villain behavior.
  • @softwool7376
You did actually ruin Internet Historian for me since he seems to have never brought it up or apologized. Thank you and damn you lol
  • @DallasSean
hello, all--and thanks for having my back, I very much appreciate it. Harris, I very much appreciate your plans to divvy out whatever funds you may accumulate from this video with those who you mention that have been plagiarized. It's an incredibly honorable thing to do. Please take whatever might be my portion of those funds and divide that up among the rest. I am doing fine financially, and would rather have the money sent to those who may truly need it. (And, if anything, the spread of this video will likely spur sales of "Tinker Belles and Evil Queens"!). All the best
  • it's still fucking wild to me how james unironically did the "they dont treat you like a friend, they treat you like an item" speech from the snapcube 06 dub
  • @samwilliams7572
There’s something funny to me about all the internet historian fans insisting he didn’t do anything wrong. Because you know who DOES think he did something wrong? Internet Historian! If he thought what he was doing wasn’t a big deal he wouldn’t have tried to hide it as hard as he did, he would have just owned it.

When James Sommerton wakes up, he finds himself in a stranger’s mansion, confused and befuddled. “Wh-What the hell!? Where am I?” James wondered aloud. He rises up, frantically searching his surroundings to find anything familiar, anything that could explain his situation. Instead, all he found was himself staring at a complex, 7 ft waterfall-inspired fountain. “You like it? The only problem is that at night, it makes me wanna pee.” James swiftly turned to see the face of a smiling man, who despite his supposed wealth, had the aura and mannerisms of a shady car salesman. “Who are you!?” James demanded. The man laughed. “Relax. I’m your friend. Probably your only friend after what he did to you.” Any fear James might have had was replaced with angry bitterness. Of course. *Him*. And his stupid video. The one who ruined you. The man noticed James’s anger and smiled. “It’s okay. We’ve all got a bone to pick with that SoyBoy.” “We?” Out from the shadows emerged two figures. A woman who wore a triangle helmet adorned with a single eyeball, and a perpetually smiling old man who had the personality of a stock photo. James knew them. They were YouTubers like him. YouTubers who were destroyed and ruined by that little virtue signaler. The only people in the world that could understand the pain and anger he’s been facing. The man continues to speak. “I’ve brought us all together because I think we can destroy him. Make that cultural Marxist wish he had never posted those damn videos. So will you join us.” The man reached out his hand. James was still hesitant. Out of the three of them, the man who had supposedly assembled this whole thing was still wholly unfamiliar. “Why? Why are you doing this? Who are you?” The man laughed once again. “Oh… let’s just say I’m someone whose mother is very proud.”

It really bothers me that Somerton implies Stevenson and Sugar had it easier when producing hits like Steven Universe and She-Ra, particularly SU, given that it's pretty well documented that Sugar and crew had to fight tooth and nail to actually get their representation in explicitly whilst being actively censored, expressing that Cartoon Network was "[holding them] to the standards of extremely bigoted countries". Edits were made to the show to change the gender of a female coded character (Ruby) to male so it wouldn't be gay in certain broadcasts. These aren't people who were just allowed to do what they want with their representation; Sugar has gone on record saying they were willing to lose the show for good if it meant they could broadcast a lesbian wedding, and would walk away themselves if they couldn't. They risked it all because they believed in what they were showing. SU is far from flawless, but it made such massive leaps for representation in children's media. Downplaying that as something they just were uniquely granted by the powers that be because lesbians is utterly ridiculous.

"If I was plagiarizing people all the time, I wouldn't... have a YouTube channel." - James Somerton, guy who no longer has a YouTube channel
  • @maxpetra9176
Opening a nearly 4 hour essay with a quote that includes the sentence "Tell us the story, briefly." is definitely one of the narrative choices of all time.
  • @bigthecat3210
rewatching this after james somerton apparently showed his james somerballs online
  • Catching James having the AreTheyGay video on his timeline is the most actual detective work BBC Sherlock has ever been involved with.

To be fair to Blare, she was very busy abusing her boyfriend and collaborators.

The depressing thing about man in cave- it could have been a genuinely great adapation of that article! if only he were upfront about it and gave credit...
