Clarification: Ukraine is in Europe, but I meant welcome them as EU-members!
  • The song is a letter to his parents who died when Joost was still young. His father told him that since humans invented the borders, he could invent the world, his own world. And so he did! The end with the burning picture and house mean that it's time to stop grieving about his parents and step into a new phase in his life.

Joost lost his parents at a very young age (12/13) His dad (papa) told him he can travel anywhere because the world has no boarders only boarders made by people. He travels everywhere but still feels the pain of the loss of his parents. When he was young he and his parents watched ESC together and Joost told his parents he wants to perform at that stage one day. The music genre of this song is a true dutch genre called gabber/happy hardcore. One of the biggest gabber producers helped Joost with this song > DJ Paul Elstak (he even has a cameo in the clip in the car almost at the end) More cameos in this clip are : S10 (esc entry in 2022 for the Netherlands) Rene Froger (esc entry with de toppers in 2009) Emma Wortelboer (gave the points from the Netherlands in 2019) Rapper Donnie (helped with this song )

The last part is happy hardcore, played by one of the most popular DJ''s for that music style DJ Paul Estak 🇳🇱🇳🇱

At first, I didn't grasp the profound meaning, but upon closer inspection, the song reveals a deeper understanding. Clues within the lyrics suggest that the song is a tribute to the artist's parents, particularly his father. The phrase "Euro papa" carries significant weight, signifying a promise the artist made to his father before his passing – a commitment to one day grace the stage of the European Song Festival.

12 points to The Netherlands. The winner of the Eurovision Songcontest 2024. This is a masterpiece. Euro papa= Euro dad, because papa is dad in Dutch. A sad song with lyrics with a meaning, with a message, in a happy hardcore melody. A letter to his father who died when he was a 12 year old child. His mother past away a year later. He promised his father that he will be someday on the Eurovision Songcontest stage. His father told him that it is possible because there are no borders between the countries, and no limits to follow his dream. Borders and limitations are made by human. In every country he went, he felt the pain and grief of no having his parents. The fire symbolise letting go of the grief and pain, and the start of a new chapter in his live.

the Netherlands are one of the core members founding the EBU with the Songcontest and also in one of the prime countries for the EEC later EU. After the entry of Sieneke in 2010 what failed on so many fronts this this is the most dutch entry in decades.

Eurovision is an emotional affair for Joost. As a child, he watched it together with his parents. "Parents, one day I'm going to be on Eurovision stage" and he made it. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was a child. This song is dedicated to his late father. That's why it's called EUROPAPA. The part in the song “I'm in Germany, but I'm so alone. I'm in Italy, but I still feel the pain, etc.", I feel it's directed at his parents... Joost loved his parents and still does. His lyrics are mostly very deep, but the melody is happy, danceable and the clips of his song are presented in a fun way. Joost himself said that his musical style is diverse. When Joost was asked what song they should listen to in order to understand you. He answered Florida 2009 (it's about his parents) and Wachtmuziek (it's about mental health). I recommend listening to them. You have to translate it, because he sings in Dutch.

Interesting to hear the comparison of genre and thinking of hardbass and gopniks, but this is gabber, a Dutch hardcore techno that is older in origin but has some of the same influences. Russian hardbass took inspiration from the bass sounds of pumping house, and the characteristic ‘bamboo-bass’ sound of the genre was invented by a Dutch duo, Klubbheads in the late 90s.

You two have the emotional depth of a stone

We all know that the points in Eurovision are mainly political, but this song is already the winner of 2024.

At first it looks like a happy song, but it' sad. Joost lost his parents when he was a child. The lyrics say for example: " I'm in Germany but I feel alone, I'm in Italy but I still feel the pain..." It's a funny catchy song with sad lyrics.
