Elvis: Return to Tupelo tells the story of the singer who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks and returned home for a triumphant concert as his rocket ship to fame and fortune was about to take off.

My wife and I stumbled on this story while filming a program about the Natchez Trace that took us through Tupelo, Mississippi. The head of the Tupelo visitors bureau insisted that we take some time to experience the Elvis trail in Tupelo. She was so nice we couldn’t say no.

She introduced us to a treasure trove of people, including Roy Turner, who pitched in to introduce us to the friends Elvis grew up with. They all had stories to tell that had never been told. We knew right then that we had to share these with the rest of the world. This is the result.

Many thanks to Kris Kristofferson who so graciously agreed to narrate this for us.

The universality of art, not just music. Elvis was smart, grounded, gifted.
  • i'm 75 and i was about 8 when Elvis came on the scene. I remember him more when I was ten bc I really became interested in him (as i was a pre teen lol) I thought he had good looks, great clothes and a great voice! He was different than other singers. I wish he hadn't passed at the young age of 42, I would have loved to have seen Elvis enjoy his daughter and grand kids.

  • Elvis changed my life. I heard his record on the radio when I was 5 yrs old in 1957. My nextdoor neighbor bought me the single of Hound Dog & Heartbreak Hotel to play on the little record player my folks got for us kids. RIP Elvis Aron Presley
  • Elvis will never go out of style. Local boy from Tupelo makes good. From rags to riches but to Elvis that wasn't what mattered. What mattered was him being accepted by the people in his home town. What a great human being Elvis was and still is. There will never be another.

I live in Tupelo. People from all over the world come here just to see his birthplace.
  • What a life that young man had. I love his love for his family and how he took care of them. A real man. That's a lot of weight and responsibility to carry at such a young age. Simply amazes me.❤️
