Seal FREED from safety hat entanglement

Published 2020-07-25
On 25 July, Naude and Antoine from Ocean Conservation Namibia (www.ocnamibia.org) had a short break in the stormy Namibian weather for a quick seal patrol. They had about one hour at the Cape Fur Seal colony at Pelican Point before the wind turned too hot and dusty to continue. The seals tend to head into the water to cool down during this kind of weather. The activists still managed to catch and release 4 entangled seals.
The first one was a young female pup bound in a thin line which was cutting quite deep into his neck. They managed to restrain him and cut him free without too much of a struggle.
The next 2 rescues were done simultaneously. Naude spotted a young male with the inner strap from a workman’s hard hat around his neck. There was no damage yet, but this was severely restricting his movement and would have had severe consequences for him. At the same time they spotted another female pup with fishing line around his neck, which Antoine caught and was joined by Naude to cut him free.
The last pup was a 1 and a half year old very strong male that was caught up in a small piece of gill net. The net had severely cut into his skin, which had mostly regrown over the line. It took them a while to carefully cut free and carefully pull out the lines before letting him go. 🦭

Naude: Don't bite! Seal: No promises!

I find it adorable how they talk to the seals even though they don’t understand what’s happening like humans. It shows how much they care and help for these seals

I don't know why but your video came up in my recommends and I have been binge watching all your videos now. All I can say is I am in awe of what you do for these animals and I can see it takes a lot of effort on all of your guys' part. Thank you so much, from a new watcher in the USA.

That guy has one heck of an eye for spotting the troubled seal in the running herd.

As a fisherman, i have learned that animals can get tangled in everything and I’m much more conscientious about keeping trash in the boat.
  • @sandrabast7080
“Hey! You took my hat! I had to fight two other seals for that!”
  • @margarethyland6170
You must be the kindest, fittest guys with the best eyesight in the world to see those entanglements from such a distance , even with binoculars. Thankyou for all you do for these gorgeous animals xxxxxx
  • @ashleywyatt7114
This is exactly why I don't eat fish. No demand=no fishing=no fishing trash in the ocean. Thank you for doing what you do 💙
  • @LilLoo226
Their cries sound like a mixture of sheep and cows.

  • @apj341
Eventually the seals will spread the word to come see you with their problems. Your gentleness while putting yourselves at risk of being bitten is very admirable and appreciated.
  • @deanmoncaster
Apparently the seal with hard hat was working as a builder on the lost city of Atlantis
  • @saphira2323
If only all rescues could be as simple as that hard hat one! “You don’t need that.” pops right off
  • @johnyoung9649
Do you ever dream that one day the seals will just line up when they need something removed?
  • @viktore.5565
    Ребята!, у вас золотые сердца!!!
  • The seal goes back to their seal friend and says "Hey Mikey, the land aliens removed that terrible fishing line from me and gave me a head scratch."
  • That "oh puppy what have you done?" Broke my heart😔I love that y'all really care about these animals❤
  • The suffering you save these animals from you should be extremely proud of yourselves
  • @sofix1524
I can't even describe with words how beautiful this is. I wish to one day do the same thing as you guys. Our planet including every single species shouldn't go through any of this, yet humans can be this cruel to not even care about them . Amazing job guys, keep on inspiring and saving these little guys!
