Season 02 : Deep South
Episode 05 : Rosewood : Rosewood, FL

People have attachments to the places they live. Some people have lived in the same places their entire lives and that community is all they know. Others have moved around but have a longing to return to the community where they grew up. Our communities are places that comfort us through familiarity and family. Sometimes though, the community becomes a battlefield.

To this day my parents have large paintings of Sarah and Sylvester in their living room. True American history Icons.

Basically the same or similar has happened in Ocoee, FL, Tulsa, Wilmington and many many more prosperous Black towns across america. Thank you for telling this story.
  • There’s a movie on this we used to watch in school called Rosewood. It’s worth a watch. My classmates great grandmother was the last remaining survivor. She recently passed.
  • Good job on getting this out in the open. I'm so happy that the families got some compensation, even though it was not close to enough. Love the series! Thank you...🙏🙌😎🤩🤟
  • I'm happy to hear that some people retained their human nature by helping despite endangering themselves
  • At first I thought Rosewood was a malapropism for Greenwood because much of what happened is so similar. The fact that this story could even be confused with a separate incident is infinitely sadder.
  • As a Floridian myself. I'm ashamed that this happened regularly 😢. As a caring human being. This is beyond heartbreaking that people are truly MONSTERS😢💔

I must say Rosewood was the most unnerving movie I have ever seen pure terror I would not even watch Django.

Incredibly horrific Florida does not want this history taught in their schools. I cannot say with confidence this horror will not repeat itself.

This is so horrific, I am near tears. I weep that we haven't gained much ground in our humanity in over a century!
  • I'm "liking" this piece to encourage you to tell the stories and in acknowledgement for your commitment of telling them.

Wow this so tragic it's making me sick to listen tbh ... but it is told so well and sensitively I listened until the end. Those poor people, I am horrified to know this happened and that is not more widely known about and studied. It's so so sad that those savages were never punished and those poor people never saw a grain of justice. And the description of those white men savages is spot on. Even the Neanderthals were more civilised. God bless every person and their families 💔❤💔
  • Look up the Black Wall Street Massacre of 1921, the fact that atrocities like these and many more have been , and in some cases still are committed, and denied, literally makes my soul hurt. I wish people would be able to celebrate each other's success and not feel threatened. Thank you again for your eloquent way of bringing these painful stories to the collectives attention. Stay safe out there all y'all.

Bless. I love these somewhere sinister more than this is monsters because there's no cringe interrogation to sit through. 50% of why I'm here is the voice.

I'm so glad your back on here. 💛 Thank you for all you do.

I lived in that area. The whole area is still doing shitty. Notice how often lakeland, Clearwater, Tampa and Polk county are mentioned in the news. It's called a curse. There's an area around Texas like that too. If you want to look up the lynchings in MANOR, TEXAS around the 20s there's a story of an innocent black man being dragged to death by a car through manor Texas and to this day nothing prospers in that area.
