Maserati's first-generation Gran Turismo lived a LONG time - 11 years without a major refresh, before quietly being discontinued. Now, it's returned looking subtly upgraded, still with stunning good looks, but totally different to drive and use. It's got the Nettuno twin-turbo V6 mounted entirely behind the front axle, standard all-wheel-drive, and a trick electronic rear differential, for razor-sharp handling. It has an all-new interior with all the tech you'd want and nothing more, ussable switchgear, and great seats. And while the price is high, as Matt explains, it's probably where it needs to be. Maserati's refresh of the GranTurismo gives us a lot of confidence in their ability to deliver the goods to real enthusiasts.

Maserati provided the vehicle, insurance, and a tank of fuel for this review.

Dealers are already advetising $50K off, so we know it's not worth its price tag. But a really appealing car nonetheless.
  • @lifeatitsbest410
Glad Matt is coming around to Maserati. They have the intangible benefit of still feeling exotic, with genuinely unique platforms. In a world where Porsche has become the iPhone in terms of dominance, it's refreshing to have compelling alternatives

I think the base Modena has all the power you can actually USE, and the Trofeo models aren't worth the extra cost. This is one of the last great (true) GTs. I would love to own one.
  • @drotegu6
Amazing to see Maserati actually putting quality back into their lineup, you can tell they are really going all with these last couple of models. When I saw the Italian flag inside that interior I thought "wow, that is Italian design and quality". I have been a hater on Maserati for a long time but I'm really liking what they are putting out recently.

Looks cute. It’s a slight update of the classic design showing how timeless it really is. The mechanical updates are also impressive. I feel most people will overlook this not just due to the brand name but too much similarities to the older cars in outward appearance.
  • @Calabino
Oh yes, I was wating for someone to review it. And thank God it's you, someone who actually knows how to drive the car...
  • @jameswillard1
So let me get this straight…..someone in marketing at Maserati said we should price this car $80k more than the last one that we couldn’t sell unless we threw $50k rebates or crazy lease deals at it 🤔 I mean do they realize you could have a brand new Lexus LC500 Coupe ……AND an LC500 Convertible…..AAAANNNNDD about $15k leftover for the price of one of these 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄
  • @mdrz
This will definitely be an intriguing car couple years down the line once the used ones are in the market and depreciation hits
  • @AlbertManiscalco
i really wish they let Alfa have a lightweight manual 2wd version since they used their excellent homework 😔
  • @riccello
I own the 10yo 4.7l v8 version I got for 30k. Best driving experience ever. Waiting for it to start appreciating back up ;)
  • @TheKillWizard
Beautiful car. Hope they never stop making it like the 911. Just keep making it better.
  • Say what you want, but Maserati and Alfa Romeo have stepped their game up the last 10 years.
  • @shingoose6197
Personally, I think a six is enough. But that V8 in the last generation was glorious. Also, that price...it's $40,000 too expensive, especially when you consider the existence of the LC500.
  • @cobra1010
Wow, this Maserati is a fantastic car! Great job!
  • Thanks, Matt. And Maserati dealers are giving $40,000 discounts off sticker on the Modena, perhaps even more on the Trofeo. And this car is, arguably, the prettiest of all, or in any case, most, of the cars you compared it to.
  • Maserati has become a one stop shop. Has better cars than Mercedes, Audi and BMW in all segments.
  • @haleonwheels4576
But you can get an MC20 (pre owned) for almost the same money or less. Still a looker though.
  • @nathanwabre
Fantastic! Great review and what a great car it seems to be. Isn’t it a bit like a 2-door Giulia Quadrifoglio with AWD, air suspension and extended leather? I say this as a compliment 🔥
