Charles Stanley dies at 90: My books were "born out of my hurts and pain"

Born in rural Dry Fork, Virginia, Stanley was senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Atlanta for 50 years. The church grew rapidly after he became its leader in 1971, moving from central Atlanta to a suburban campus in 1997 to accommodate a growing flock in the sprawling urban area.
“We are forever grateful for his enduring legacy of faithful leadership and spiritual guidance,” the church said in a social media post.
He hosting “In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley,” a Christian teaching program that began airing on the newborn Christian Broadcasting Network in 1978.

Dr. Charles Stanley will be missed. He was a true man of God. I liked his gentle demeanor and how he explained scripture in an understandable way. I hope that his family, friends and loved ones find comfort during this time.

My mother had Alzheimer's disease and I moved in with my parents to help out. As she declined physically, she was unable to go to church, so Sunday morning was a sermon by Dr. Charles Stanley on TV. I stayed on with my dad until he chose to go into a nursing home, just about the time of the COVID lockdown. Dr. Stanley was his "personal pastor" during this time and Dad often talked with me about his sermons and how they had an impact on his life. Dad passed away on Dec. 31, 2022, just short of 99 years old. Now he gets to meet his pastor in person! Thank you, Lord, for giving us this good teacher.

We lost a great man of God yesterday. He has run his race and met his Savior. His messages have helped so many people including myself through the years. I am glad his sermons are available online for the future. RIP.

My husband got saved listening to Charles, he had a very hard heart but when I had Charles on the TV he would stop, listen and finally asked me if what he was preaching was true, then he gave his heart to Jesus. That was over 30 years ago, I can’t wait to meet Charles in glory. ♥️

Dr. Stanley has helped me to continue studying the Bible more than any other pastor for the past fifty years. Pastor Stanley changed my life. The world will be less than it was with his Love and kindness.

I was baptized 2 days ago, age 50. Every time I came across a station (radio or tv) with Dr. Stanley, I would feel led to listen to this man. He always hit home with me it seems. Thank you Pastor Stanley for your service, and thank You Heavenly Father for Pastor Stanley.

God used Dr. Charles Stanley to get me saved and began my personal journey with Jesus Christ, that was six years ago in 2017, my senior year of high school. Now I’m in my senior year of College and I’m bound to graduate with my degree this May, I’m so grateful that Dr. Stanley got me to know Jesus, and that I’ve gone through college with him. I’ll always be grateful, rest in Jesus now Charles, God Bless - Randy
