As a recovering alcoholic, drug addict, and former career criminal, Kent Grosswiler’s perception of self often times kept him at bay in discovering his true ability. Now a moderately successful artist, writer, and drummer, he is discovering the joy and satisfaction that comes from overcoming internal barriers and his willingness to accept his efforts as worthwhile and rewarding. His goal is to share his story in the hopes to motivate and breakdown people’s internal perception of themselves.

Kent Grosswiler is man that has seen the swings. He is an artist, a writer, and a drummer in Columbus, Ohio. However, as a recovering alcoholic, drug addict, and career criminal, he has experienced what can only be described as a civil war in his own head. Through his courage and stubbornness to be better, he is the foremost authority on the type of potential that lies within all of us.

Thank you. You were a great speaker. I learned a lot from you. Because you are real, you have been through rough edges, but you found a way to end up in a better place, utilizing your inner talents, accepting your flaws, but embracing your strengths!

  • i was worrying about writing the wrong thing or it not being good enough but then i thought..wait a minute....so youve inspired me to write my first ever comment for a tedtalk and ive watched many over the years! I love the fact that you said you were worried about doing a tedtalk. It good to show vulnerabilities and be so human. Well done for how far you have come and good luck with the future. I believe you have got lots more good stuff still to come. Big love x

Thank you for telling your story - it is powerful, and will empower others to keep trying - including me. Who is trying to overcome my own inner demons, even though everyone thinks I am successful. In my head, I am not, and I try hard each day to become better, and try even harder to keep going. Life is a challenge, and your story is so motivational. I hope you are still doing really well.

One of my favourites so far. I've listened to you several times. I think it takes a lot of bravery to get up and talk in front of a lot of people about your personal experiences with addiction. I love that you spoke of how you were afraid and went for it anyhow. Very inspiring. Thank you!!

And huh...he has a phenomenal story. When you seek to be the best version of yourself and you work hard at positive change, however hopeless your life may seem, great things will happen for you. And huh...seek to be the best version of yourself.

Blaming everything on yourself and ignoring the fact that others try to oppress you is counter productive. Your biggest enemy might be yourself but that does not mean that you do not have plenty of other enemies who want to keep you down and humiliate you.
