I liked how there was no twist villain, with the primary conflict centred around the family's past. Plus, Mirabel never received a gift, but she never wanted one, she just wanted to feel a part of her family.
  • Mirabel was the gift. The miracle. Thats why she didn’t get a door. Also when she felt left out or sad, the house started cracking. That explains why when the rebuilt the casita, she gets the front door, she is the Casita , the gift, the miracle.

When Dolores says “he wants five babies” and Isabella blushes she grows a bunch of flowers but one white flower and when abuela notices she picks it out saying “our PERFECT Isabella”

Mirabel also doesn’t have a typical “pet” in the movie to make her a Disney Princess. Pico doesn’t really count since he’s only there momentarily and flies away. And as a glasses wearer, I was very happy to see a Disney main character with glasses and I was happy to see her deal with some of the struggles with glasses (pushing them up, them getting tilted when hugged, etc.)
  • Here's a detail you missed! When Mirabel is setting the family table for breakfast, you can see each of the plates have each family member's name enscribed, as well as their gift. Antonio's plate already had animals on it , even though he hadn't gotten his gift yet!
  • When Mirabel went to open her door, when she was young, she wiped her hands on her dress. When Bruno "saved" her from falling in the walls, he told her that she's sweaty! The consistency of little things like Mirabel having sweaty hands is amazing!!

I kinda felt like she was always the Casita's favourite person, even if she didn't have a gift. And I think her gift was to be the next Abuela, the ruler of the family.

If you watch the scene where Isabella gets scared from hearing "he wants 5 babies" and generates flowers in her hair. Most are the normal perfect pink and purple flowers, but one WHITE daisy. (She lost control of her perfect persona) and abuela sees it and has a look of concern and picks it off her hair as she says "perfect isabella". Another cool hint at the family drama!

Another Small Detail: Each of the powers of the Madrigal triplets (Julieta, Pepa and Bruno) is tangental to the passage of time. Julieta's gift is that of healing, which reverts one to a past healthier state. Pepa's emotions effect the present weather conditions. Lastly, Bruno is able to see into the future. This also lines up with the order of their birth, Julieta being first born, Pepa the middle child and Bruno being the youngest. Edit: To a certain extent this even goes further into their personalities and characters. Julieta is the closest tied to the family's traditions and strives for her daughters to find their place in it. Pepa's intense emotions have a tendency to change from moment to moment, rarely lingering for too long. Bruno's always worrying about his own 'bad luck' and constantly tries to curb it with throwing salt and knocking on wood; worrying about what the future holds for him.
  • Another detail is Mirabel's glasses are green just like Bruno's eyes when he sees into the future

Something I noticed - when Luisa sings “I’m as tough as the crust of the earth is”, the earth she threw immediately cracks; I’d like to think this subtly indicates she’s cracking under the pressure she’s in, and that it wasn’t really that tough after all

I think why Mirabel didn’t get a gift is because she touched the candle, then touched her chest, then touched the door. All the rest of her family touched the candle then immediately. Mirabel’s share of magic went into her heart ♥️
  • I loved how this movie wasn't stereotypical of other Disney movies and stood strong on its own. Really hope they make a second one or an animated series.

You forgot to mention that Dolores has sound waves on her outfit.
  • Also something I only noticed bc rewatching ending, Abuela wears a black shawl majority of the movie, something she wore right after her husband had died. At the end, after reconciling with Mirabel and when they rebuilding the house, she no longer had the shawl on. I believe this symbolizes that she is no longer mourning and has manage to move on.

If you're wondering why Mirabel didn't get a gift at the end of the movie, here's why: It would defeat the whole purpose. Mirabel never wanted a gift, she just wanted to feel like part of her family. The entire point was that the people were more than their gift, that the gift didn't define them and it wasn't as important as them themselves. If Mirabel had received one, she would no longer be living proof that you didn't need a gift to be special.
  • @ketchup710
another teeny tiny detail: Notice the remarkable irony on how Pepa's children (Dolores, Antonio, and Camillo) are completely in control of their gifts when Pepa is not, while Julieta who is completely in control of her gift gave birth to children who are secretly struggling with their's (Isabella, Luisa and Mirabel - with no gift).
  • Mirabel's eyesight is never once corrected by her mother's power. Because it isn't an imperfection. This ressonates the debate about one of the Eternals, the "perfect beings", being deaf.

Other Easter eggs in the movie include: The triplets' gifts affecting tenses in time (Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno affecting the past, present, and future respectively) Madrigal Messages (the gifts that the Madrigals were given are more like messages to help Abuela grieve, alongside other life lessons) Dolores' Earache ("dolor" translates to "pain" in Spanish, and you can see her flinch and cover her ears when something gets loud for her)
