Sports Illustrated calls Trevor Moawad “the world’s best brain trainer.” With an accolade like that, and a history of working with the world’s elite athletes, you might expect him to have some sort of fancy, highly-complex system. If so, your expectations would be wrong. Moawad keeps it simple and straight-forward, focusing on changing what people say, what they consume, and how they form habits. On this episode of Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu, Trevor Moawad discusses a realistic alternative to the trendy idea of positive thinking, explains the connection between what you say out loud and how your life turns out, and proves conclusively that, contrary to popular belief, your past does not predict your future.

QUOTES:

“If someone says something out loud, it’s ten times more powerful than if they think it.” [7:07]

“Negativity is a multiple of four to seven times more powerful than positivity. So think about that. If I say something out loud, it’s 10x. If it’s negative, it’s four to seven times more powerful. So when I say negative things out loud, it’s 40 to 70 times more likely that that will happen--or cause a result that won’t be good for me--than if I just didn’t say anything.” [7:21]

“If you say stupid sh*t out loud ultimately you’re predicting and perpetuating exactly what you don’t want to have happen.” [13:42]

“The past is real. But the only thing that makes it predictive is if my behavior stays the same.” [16:00]

  • Wow. This is 💯 true. In a decade my son died, our house foreclosed, my car was stolen, we went through a divorce, I was sexually assaulted, remarried a pathological liar and went to jail in London. It wasn’t until I learned to shift my thinking and speaking I stopped the train wreck. My sons death threw me into a place of negativity and everything that followed was negative. I chose to re-shift my focus on only speaking positively about my life experiences and it’s both shifted the experiences and circumstances that have come into my life but also shifted how I feel about my pst experiences. 💪🏼 Thank you for sharing this. It’s the best message out there.

Tip: Take action daily and stop asking how LONG it will take and instead ask how FAR can I go. And remember, sometimes you win & sometimes you LEARN.
  • RIP Trevor Moawab. Watched this when released, loved it. A game changer in mental attitude and conditioning. Went to look up Trevor and discovered he had passed on in September 2021. From cancer. gutted. He was probably aware of it when producing this show. What a guy. Hope his legacy lives on.
  • This is why I always say to myself “Whatever you feed your mind that’s the plate your gonna eat off of”
  • Whoever is reading this and you have been falsely accused, cursed and despised. Dont worry. You are going to raise up and prove your critics wrong. You are stronger and there is greatness within you

22:34 "Don't say stupid shit out loud". I think this summarizes the whole episode perfectly! Love the car example too. This guy knows how to put the theory into accessible practice for all of us.
  • "If you dont have anything positive/good to say then dont say nothing at all". Wisdom passed down from grandmothers for generations. Also I must say that I have spoken negativity out loud before yet was able to manifest the positive instead through visualization and affirmations. So personally I dont feel all is lost if you say something negative in a vulnerable moment. Just be sure to redirect it into a positive.
  • My favorite part is the SAT score and how receiving the wrong score changed the behavior and made him successful. If we all behaved like we are the smartest, most powerful people, we will no doubt get to our goals. The true challenge is to believe in ourselves when no outside stimuli confirms we can make it happen. Sometimes we narrate our problems and focus on them so much they end up taking over our lives. Journaling has helped me a lot with being mindful and aware of what I think and feel to refocus on my goals and keeping my mindset and self talk more positive

This is the best guest he's ever had... unbelievable amount of common sense... Straight forward with no bullsh#t and no "Look at me and how wise I am"
  • If you are reading this, YOU ARE A MASTERPIECE! Let’s break all the negative emotions and transform into a new future, filled with positivity and fulfillment!
  • “Your behavior is way ahead of your success” 👏🏽 The “be, do, have” model 💯
  • Great interview! Lots of good lessons here 1) Don't say negative stuff 2) The past is not necessarily predictive of the future - you can change your future by changing your behaviour. 3) choice can be an illusion- if you want to be successful there are certain things you really need to do and/or avoid. Packed with wonderful examples.
  • @osse1n
Seeking outside approval and living after people's expectations makes the doubt to creep forward -- self-sabotaging becomes an escape
  • The battle is in your mind. Control your thoughts and Change your self talk to positive affirmations. Let go of the past and Spark peace for the future.
  • Summary: Life is rough, don’t tell yourself and others to stay positive when everything around them seems to suck, just focus on NOT being NEGATIVE. Shift your mind to think always positive or negative. Mentally focus on being up (positive) or baseline (neutral)
  • “You are what you eat!” Consume anything and everything that you want to be. No one wants to be negative. I certainly do not want to be. My music, podcasts, who I follow on social media, TV, movies....EVERYTHING I CONSUME... feeds into who and what I want to be. Thank you Tom and Trevor for those episode!!! It’s Truth & 🔥🔥🔥
  • "Man's search for meaning", by Viktor Frank, is a must. Excellent recommendation, Tom.
  • The older I got, the more I recognized how much my negative self talk was affecting my life. And even to this day, that negativity still creeps up. This was a good reminder to keep those thoughts and self talk in check.
  • Rest In Peace Trevor, you have guided me in so many ways. I enjoy our walks on IFIt, feels like we are still walking together. A huge hug…God Bless You
