  • 5:50 Walls that are pinned at the top with 2x4s across 2 joists and run parallel to the joists are NOT load bearing.
  • Thanks so much for this - you are one of the few inspectors that post videos of common issues. Very informative!

2:20 notch plate "keeps the load continuous" --??-- I thought it was to prevent drywall screws from accidentally penetrating wires or PVC pipes.

Good video. I couldn’t tell if this was an issue on this build, but I want to mention that foam core PVC (it says DWV on it for “drain/waste/vent”) that is hung horizontally requires hangers every 3 feet. If this is not done, this WILL become an issue in a couple of decades. I speak from experience with my 30 year old house. This is something that is very often ignored by builders. Solid core can be hung every 4 feet I understand. Speaking of solid vs. foam core, I would also want my home inspector to check that foam core is not being used where solid core is required. In fact, if I were doing a new build, I would have it in the contract that everything must be solid core. More expensive, but worth it.
  • This dude says kudos to electricians. I already know he’s never worked construction a day in his life! Lol

2:34 is 3” pipe, but you’re still right in that that wall should be 2 x 6, it’ll barely fit as is, as soon as you need a coupling or fitting, it won’t fit. 5:13, I hate those cheap plastic rings on toilet flanges, they will warp and/or break over time, should have used the ones with a stainless ring.

That kitchen vent appeared to be closer that 3’ from the window above. If that was a townhouse it needs a 2 hr fire wall that is continuous from foundation to roof. The LP flame block is only 1/2 of that. The drywall on the interior of that wall need to be continuous from foundation to roof. There should have been drywall installed on that wall prior to any framing terminating at the firewall. That should have definitely been called out.

Really nice video. I'm a bit surprised at there were several silly mistakes during this new home build. My home is from 1966 and it seems that older homes here in Oakland, CA generally don't have what seem are silly and obvious mistakes during the initial build. Is there an issue with either the workers or the building designer in modern builds? Perhaps there is a push for speed?

Pre drywall? Is that like everything at once? Lol He missed the most important thing while making sure house is ready for Sheetrock.. any guesses… Yup all the hole from floor to floor and floor to ceiling.. all need correct spray foam and fire caulk. None In that house. Notching a truss for pipe? That’s a fail. Notching barring wall continuously is also a fail. State too state who the hell knows these days right.

Nice Guy Needs a Lot More Training, Just because it has a double plate does not make it a load bearing wall, Nail Guards of electric cables are only required if less than 1.25 inch is present, Missed other things too

i have a question i just cut trees in my front yard of my rental and ground rod is now exposed after cutting the bushes that hide it. is it ok to keep the ground rod expose its being expose for 30 years i just now seeing it after cutting trees? also i like your videos

2:44 that is not a gusset plate. That is a safety plate or as others call it a stud guard. Gusset plates are used to connect truss members.
  • @littlehuey5679
What is the green stuff sprayed on the studs and what is it for ?
  • Cross tee on double sink. Good luck snaking that sink line in the future won’t happen
