Love to see you updating more regularly. ❤

Very happy to see you uploading again! Please don't take this as pressure - I know it takes a lot to make these videos. Just know we appreciate you. Susie Dent features occasionally on some British panel shows like QI, Would I Lie To You, and 8 Out of 10 Cats. She's usually brought on to set the record straight on some word or another but it's as always enjoyable, always a laugh.

😍 love the topic of language. It definitely feels like with the internet language is changing so rapidly and that is really proving difficult for some people seeing language evolve in realtime and then trying to reject the idea that language ever change. Thank you for putting together such a well thought out discussion!

I do love fun with words!! I loved The Etymologican and need to read more of these. I also really recommend The Story of English in 100 Words by David Crystal.
  • the creation of fictional languages is such an interesting topic, making it not sound like absolute nonsense while still being made up is a real talent.

An older book you’d probably enjoy is The Adventure of English by Melvyn Bragg. There was an accompanying tv series (2003) which is probably somewhere on YouTube.

I just noticed your unusual photo behind your Thank You For Watching sign. Is there a story? I just heard an anecdote from Rupert Sheldrake, who's interested in chanting and says that you can make a chant of the word Amen. Only, the original pronunciation from Aramaic was Ah-meen, and both Hebrew and Arabic share this word and pronounce it this way. Rupert says that Latin had no long E, and the pronunciation was lost when the originals were translated into Latin way back when. Words and their etymology are a lot of fun.

Language changes and reality follows or rather the other way around?
