Precursor to the Big N' Tasty. I really liked this burger, though the huge Styrofoam container was a joke, both logistically and environmentally.

Anyone else think that McDonald's should do throwbacks of their older food items on their anniversary?

The nostalgia of this actually brought a tear to my eye lol, not for the hamburger, but for the time period.
  • I used to freaking LOVE this burger!! I wish they could bring it back. The closest thing now is the quarter pounder deluxe.

YES! I remember this commercial. And $1.49?!?! Damn, I wish burgers that size still cost that much!

Actually, the styrofoam container was a clever concept. As the ad explains, it kept the cool toppings separated from the hot burger. Plus, for whatever reason, those burgers tasted a hundred times better in the styrofoam than any of McDonald's boxed burgers. The McD.L.T. was delicious!

the original Styrofoam containers had a peel off sticker on them.. we used to put them on our lockers at work!

I worked at McDonald's in late 1987. We were still making these. We did cut the tomatoes, but the lettuce and onions came in plastic bags. We'd make these delicious burgers, separated as you see in the commercial, and then toss the styrofoam carton in the heated bin. Made lots of sense.

Best tasting burger McD's ever had. Its all I got every trip. Something about it just tasted different than their standard fare.

$1.49 for a burger in 1985. Good lord that sounds like a miracle.
  • @Chefstig12
$1.49 back then would have been $6-$8 nowadays for a McDLT

Back in in 1985 minimum wage was $3 an hour and you can buy 2 of those burgers. Today, minimum wage is still $7.25, you can barely buy 1.

To this day the DLT was the best burgers McDonald's ever put out
