The largest Smallmouth Bass in the pond has grown and is showing it's aggressive side as it tries to attack a bag of bait shop minnows that are floating in the pond getting acclimatized to the water temperature. Next we move in some Christmas Trees to act as shelter and cover for the bait fish. The bullfrogs take up residence in the trees as well and much of the pond life makes a home in the cover of the trees. The frogs have been reproducing as we seen thousands of small tadpoles holding tightly near the pond shore.

An excavator is called in to dig out a corner of the pond that wasn't done in the original pond dig video. The digging out of the pond gives us more depth and digs the pond shore bank back to make a much larger corner. The pond bottom is more rocky and gravel based in this corner which should give the fish and bait a different pond bottom structure to live in from the sand bottom that covers most of the existing pond.

I send an underwater camera down below the water surface to see the fish and minnows in their natural setting. The camera swims up on many sunfish both small and large, which shows the impressive reproduction that has been occurring in the baitfish and pan fish populations over the last few years. The GoPro and bobber trick work great as we get some high quality video which gives us an up close look at the pond bottom and vegetation and water quality.

The camera shows the underwater view of the male sunfish guarding the nest from Dace minnows that are desperately trying to steal a snack of eggs from the gravel bottom. The male sunfish guard the nest for up to two weeks which expels much energy as the fish are always on the lookout for intruders.

I am going to steal your GoPro and bobber idea. That is pretty creative.
  • Awesome footage of the male pumpkin doing his thing. Just found your channel today. I dug my pond late last year and am patiently waiting for the ice to melt and to stock my pond shortly. So exciting to see this
