The best 4 drills to improve your head movement for boxing. Even if you just want to know how to dodge punches for the streets!

These head movement drills will work for you too šŸ’Æ

If you don't have a partner to train with then the first drill is perfect because it's one that you can do at home and all you need is a slip bag

If you don't have a slip bag watch this video where I show you how to make one, using stuff you have lying around at home:
Ā Ā Ā ā€¢Ā HowĀ toĀ makeĀ MikeĀ TysonĀ styleĀ SLIPĀ BAG...Ā Ā

Even if you do have a partner to train with, having a slip bag at home is still a must because even just using it for 10 minutes a day will give you the reps you need to really improve your head movement technique.

Now when you use your slip bag, I want you to imagine that fast punches are coming at you, so when you slip, it has to be FAST and on top of that, you have to be able to maintain perfect balance so that:

- You are able to dodge multiple punches and
- You are always in a position to throw punches back

This is a fundamental will help you to become a well rounded fighter

Moving on to the second drill: The noodle

In this drill you will need a partner and a 'pool noodle' cut in half or quarters.

You partner is going to be trying to punch your face with the noodles and you're going to be moving your head to dodge the punches.

The main thing I want you to focus on is being able to react quickly and slip out of the way. So start off slow and as your slipping reactions improve, increase the speed.

After a while, your reactions will improve massively and head movement will become much faster. Just remember: like the first drill, keep your balance so that later on, you'll be able to set up counter punches.

With this drill, you can also add in footwork, double jabs, feints, hooks, combinations. This will help your ability to slip and dodge a punch because you'll be able to read your opponents better.

Once you've mastered the noodle drill, it's time to upgrade to the glove

In this drill, you're basically doing the exact same thing you did with the noodles except the range is a bit harder to deal with.

The noodles are a bit more extended which gives you more time to react to punches coming in but the glove is more realistic to what you will face in sparring or in an actual fight which is why I recommend you get used to the noodle first, which is a safe way to learn, then move on to the glove.

This is one of the best drills to improve your head movement because it's basically a simulation of sparring or fighting except, you're focusing on one thing: Head movement

The more you do this drill the more your head movement will become instinctive and will automatically happen when you're sparring or fighting.

If you're a short guy then this drill is a must because you'll need these skills to get on the inside of taller opponents.

And the final drill is bringing all the skills together and setting up counter punches. But I'll break this one down on a future video...

I hope you enjoy the video and that once you practice these drills you'll know exactly how to dodge punches
