"House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series. A prequel to Game of Thrones (2011–2019), it is the second show in the franchise, created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal for HBO. Both series are based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by Martin. Condal and Miguel Sapochnik are the showrunners. Based on parts of the novel Fire & Blood, the series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. It portrays the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons"

i no longer wonder why it's taking George R R Martin so long to finish these books, because if you have to think about how hundreds of characters would respond every time someone makes a decision most of us would go mad probably.

They’re the perfect example of “too big to fail”. And they did just enough to scrape by and not get invaded by the Targaryens and others. I think in King Robert’s time they were still fallen from grace and people didn’t trust them, but tolerated them as they were so rich.

I love that George liked HoTD so much that he said he might rewrite Fire and Blood to align more with Viserys and Marjorie's portrayals in the show!

Interesting thing about all of this is that Sam is conveniëntly placed at Hightower at the right time for us to get a POV for the events outside of Ironborn eyes, which kinda implies the Damphair might not make it out alive. I feel like Euron isn't targeting Oldtown for the Hightowers, but rather to bring down the Maesters and Faith of the Seven.

I’ve recently came across a prediction that suggests that the pale haired woman besides Euron in Aeron’s foresaken vision isn’t Cersei as many tend to believe but Malora Hightower and now I refuse to believe any other option

Love that you pointed out the oily black stone and the Lovecraft mythos connection. GRRM made a lot of homage references to Lovecraft, Chambers, Derleth, Wagner and more in his world.
